Managing Time and Technology in the New Year by Savannah - December 2020 Scholarship Essay

Students today often manage our time poorly when it comes to studying, sleeping, relaxing, and everything in between. We choose to spend time on our cellular devices or watching television instead of studying and keeping a healthy sleep schedule. My New Year's resolution will be to manage my time better, in order to succeed in my school and social life.
In order to achieve this resolution, I will set restrictions on my phone that prevents me from spending more than an hour a day on miscellaneous apps like Snapchat or Tik Tok. These restrictions will remind me to put down my phone and be more productive with my time. I will also start leaving my electronic devices in a common area of my house when I go to bed, so that I can get a good night's sleep that is uninterrupted by presence of unnecessary technology. Seperating myself from my devices will be healthy for me, both physically and mentally.
Lastly, I will set aside time every day after school and extracurricular activities to study and do my homework. During the time allotted, I will sit myself down and be productive so that I cannot procrastinate or forget about my school work and tests. This time will allow me to prioritize my school work, and prevent me from losing sleep over forgotten assignments.
Technology is slowly taking over our lives, the younger generations especially. We must learn to
seperate ourselves from social media and other technologies and live our lives without relying on technology as much as we do. If we cannot learn to restrict our technological usage or reliance, we will be the most unhealthy and unproductive generation in history. I believe that I can fight back against the negative impacts of technology and poor time management by fulfilling this New Year's resolution, and encouraging people around me to do the same.
