Your Limits Can Be Pushed by Sarah - November 2020 Scholarship Essay

One aspect that I am most thankful for in my education is my parents pushing me in academics at such a young age. They pushed me to limits I never knew I could reach without their help. Who knew as a junior in highschool I would be taking all college classes at my community college!
Every year when I was young, in the summer my parents would buy my sister and I a school book that had all four subjects. The book wasn’t just the grade we were going into, but it was one grade ahead of that! They did that for us, and they pushed us to our limits. Although there were many days I hated working in that book and doing the work, I am so glad that I pushed through the anger and frustration. Those days are what got me to where I am at now, a hard working and determined student.
It is difficult to learn another language and takes lots of practice to master. As I started taking spanish in highschool, my parents had me take that level of spanish on an online program the summer before school started. Doing this helped me gain a slight advantage of learning the material. It kept me a quarter inch above water, because if you are a quarter inch under water, you can still drown.
Over summers my parents also had me do Khan academy as a way to keep my brain turning and keep the information in my brain and not letting it float away. This helped me retain information better, and also helped me the next year when I went into a math class. As I had already been doing math over the summer and had not forgotten most of it like other students.
As a junior in highschool I only have about two years before I have to decide what I want to do for the rest of my life. That is a big decision to make. Not only what I want to do, but what college I want to attend. To get into that college I need to have good grades, a good SAT and ACT score and many other things. My parents signed my sister and I up for a college planning advisor that helps with college and everything that goes along with that.
My parents have been such a big part of my education and I thank them for that. They have gotten me to where I am at today, they saw my potential before I could even see my own. This is the aspect of my education that I am most thankful for.
