Be Your Own Leader by Samantha - March 2015 Scholarship Essay

College can be the factor that changes everything. All the time you hear about people dropping out and saying "College was not right for me." If college was not right for you, you probably did not take the intiative needed.

I believe that in order to succeed in college a person does need some sort of leadership skills, though they do not necessarily have to be considered a leader.

College is the first real time that a person is on his or her own. When a person is in college, his or her parent will most likely not be there. The student needs to take the responsibility on himself or herself. Mom and Dad will not be there to tell the student to do his or her homework. They cannot remind the student of the essay that's due or that chapter that he or she needs to read for his or her next class. That is where the leadership skills come in.

The student needs to lead his or her own life. He or she needs to learn to manage his or her time well and manage his or her pritories. He or she needs to keep track of his or her asssignments and get them done. He or she needs to know if he or she needs to ask for help from the professor or even get a tutor. This is how a student needs to have leadership skills. The student simply need to be a leader for his or her own life.
