College is as Important as a Shower After a Workout by Sadie - April 2020 Scholarship Essay

Working out is important, some could say necessary, for your physical and mental health. I love working out, and I have always tried to make it a part of my daily life. Working out helps me grow and become a better me than I already am, but the shower after my workout is more important sometimes. Working out comes in all different types of activities, but everyone showers afterward, I hope. I want to compare college to the shower after a workout because both are so important.

I have grown up in a house where college was not just encouraged but almost forced in a way. Both my parents went to college and wanted me and my two siblings to go as well. I am the youngest of my siblings and only one of my older siblings went to college. Growing up I knew college was part of my long-term plan. It is so important to me because it is a steppingstone to a better life filled with bigger pay checks, and increased learning. High school is important because it is the workout of my simile. In high school you learn and grow. You learn more about yourself and you work hard to be the best you. You get a littler dirty and hurt sometimes, but after high school you are not done, just like how after a workout you are not done. You need to shower after a workout just like how you need to go to college after high school. The shower, college, cleans us up and helps us be an even better version of our self than before. I believe that college teaches us things we could not have learned simply from graduating high school and jumping into the workforce.

Some may argue that college is not for everyone, and I agree. I agree that traditional college is not for everyone, but I believe that you should not stop after high school. There are other ways to increase your knowledge. Community colleges, or on the job training are easier for some people. Whatever path is right for you, high school should not be the stopping place. College is important because you learn and improve yourself better than you already were.

Just like a shower cleans you after a workout, college cleans you up and gets you ready to go out into the world. People do not like to go to a party after a workout because they are not the best them, they could be. I think college is very important because it molds us into the people we need to be. We learn more, achieve more, and become more than we could without it. I am excited to attend college and improve myself, clean myself up after a workout. I know college will be hard, unlike a shower, but I am ready for the challenge.
