If I were to start a nonprofitable organization, who would it help and why? by Sa'Kaiah - February 2020 Scholarship Essay
If I were to start a nonprofitable organization, it would definitely benefit people who struggle with mental issues that aren’t able to afford the proper help they need, people who might need help speaking up about what they’re going through, or people that struggle with mental health that wants to anonymously talk about their feelings or seek help. Growing up I’ve struggled with bad mental health and I’ve developed really bad habits. I’ve never had anyone to talk about these things with and it’s something I still slightly struggle with. My parents have never been emotionally available for anything I’ve come for them with, I didn’t have any decent friends, and therapy just overall made me extremely uncomfortable. I’ve had to deal with a lot of things on my own and it’s one of the worst feelings ever. And I know that there is a lot of today’s youth going through their own struggles. But they don’t have to be. I want them to know that there’s someone out there and there’s always a reason to keep going. I’d have daily scheduled meetings Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. It would be a group therapy type thing where everyone can talk about anything, there would be a class for teens and a class for adults. And once a week, I’d take the teens out to do something fun so they could bond with each other, and possibly be able to support one another. Each session both classes would have to fill out a form stating how they’re doing, how their day went, and if there was anything they could’ve done to make it better. Being able to help people in need is the reason I want to go to college for psychology, to become a therapist. I actually do plan on making a nonprofit organization like this when I get my degree, so if people can’t afford therapy they’ll always have me. It’ll start in one city then as it grows, I’ll try to place my organization worldwide. Nobody deserves to go through anything alone and that’s what I want to stand for.
