Teachers, always remember by Ryan - January 2015 Scholarship Essay
Teachers all across the world, there is only one piece of advice I would offer to you: know that you are one of the most important people in a student’s life. What you teach can either resonate inside a student beyond school, or be just enough to get through the day. The choice is yours.
Teachers, you all should realize the gifts you possess. Each day you are capable of having the power to impact. You’re able to inspire students. You all are able to make students push themselves to limits they had never thought of. Teachers, see the potential in each of your students. Let them know that they have potential to become whatever their heart desires. However, remind them that nothing is possible without hard work and perseverance. Students, particularly high school students and lower, are very impressionable. Be a role model. Let them know that in whatever they do in life, be proud of it and always do the best they can.
It’s understandable and nearly expected to be frustrated when you’re class does not show any effort or interest. The fault can be yours, theirs, or both. A suggestion I can give is to remind yourself why you became a teacher. If it was because you’re passionate about a certain subject, make that passion shine through your teachings. Becoming more involved and personal with your lessons can give your students something more relatable and tangible. Having your students realize that you too are human can create a bond. It may sound silly, but teaching is essentially art, and art reflects life. Do not forget to incorporate your life into your art. May your future teaching help your students find themselves; maybe you can find yourselves as well.
