Discuss one piece of advice you would give to incoming high school freshman. by Ryan - November 2014 Scholarship Essay
My one piece of advice to all incoming high school freshmen is to take advantage of every opportunity given to you. Don't waste your time thinking that you could put things off. It's important to work hard in your freshman year cause catching up is very hard to do.
Your freshman year is the year that is going to determine whether or not you will be able to continue your education after high school. Sometimes we think that we have four years to get it together but you are hurting yourself if you believe that. You need to understand exactly what your GPA means to you cause if your mess it up your freshman year your going to struggle trying to get it where you need it to be to get in the college of your choosing.
Start looking at the colleges you might be interested in and know what their requirements are so you will know what you need to do to achieve your goal. Don't let your dream pass you by work hard now cause the end result I promise you is well worth it. If you find yourself struggling find a tutor either inside or outside of school. Don't wait until it's too late to do anything about your grades. Even if you don't think you need it get yourself a study partner. Sometimes it helps when you have an extra pair of eyes to help you look at things. Don't be ashamed to admit you need help cause your goal is to get the best grade you can get and if that requires help every now and then, trust me it is worth it.
High School is the end of the first chapter in your life. Your freshman year is the start of your final chapter. Once you leave high school you enter another chapter in your life one that makes you independent and on your own but you need a good start in high school to get you where you are headed. Good luck and work hard.
