What does success look like for me? For you? For our world? by Ruthie - February 2021 Scholarship Essay
What is success? How do you define it? Success means something different to every person on this earth. We all have our own goals and plans. Some want to go to trade school, get a certificate or go straight into the workforce. Me? I want to go to college and major in Business Management. Success to me means I have met a goal. I have accomplished something I worked very hard for over several days, months, or even years. My current goal is to go to college. How do I decide if that is a success? Well, I have come up with a couple of criteria. I want to graduate debit-free. I don't want to owe anyone anything for my education and I am willing to work very hard for it. I am currently in High School and I work 3 part-time jobs. I want to maintain a 3.80. I am a straight-A student, I see success when I know that I have thoroughly learned everything that my Professor is going to teach me.
College to me means that I have the opportunity to meet people with similar interests. It means I can make connections with people who can help me further my potential career. It means I can discover my interests and determine the best way I can contribute to my world. How can I make my world better? What is the best thing I can do for my country? Will I discover something about myself that I never even considered? What if I become a part of something bigger? Something that changes our everyday lives?
I have a huge interest in agriculture. I love to see how nature changes and grows. I want to make sure that I am able to keep our environment healthy and sustained. I want to know that I have the best resources at my disposal to grow healthy food, care for healthy animals, and give back to my community. I need to be able to give my life my all. I believe that college will give me the tools to do this. College means that I have the best knowledge to make my world and yours a better place. That is my definition of success.
