"BORN" Leader by Rudana - December 2021 Scholarship Essay

I often tell others that I was literally born to be a leader. No, I was literally born into a leadership position. Being the oldest child in a family of six forces you to pick up some of the slack in the household. From a young age, I took care of my siblings by helping them with their homework, feeding them, and putting them to sleep. Now, my responsibilities have changed; I am a personal chauffeur, an Uber Eats driver, and a professional chef. Honestly, I really do not mind, because I possess the trait that best describes a leader: passion.
Passion is the driving force behind every accomplishment a person achieves in their life. In the absence of passion, leaders will not push both their abilities and the abilities of their team to their full extent. Think about yourself. If you are extremely dissatisfied with the sport you play, your performance will not reach its full potential, and, consequently, will rub off on your teammates who look up to you. On the other hand, if you are extremely passionate about what you are studying at your university, your motivation to study hard will increase, making you an incredibly useful asset to those around you. Ultimately, people do not desire to be surrounded by those who are unmotivated, undisciplined, and un-passionate. Whether the area is seemingly unimportant, such as being part of a video game team, or an influential part of society, like congressional committees, passion is the driving factor of success.
The reason I do a great deal for my family is because I am passionate about spending time with them. I do not mind driving my brother to soccer practice, his friend’s house, or to get ice cream, because it makes him happy. I never want my siblings to feel that they cannot come to me when they need help; I enjoy being their leader. I am proud of my role in my family life and never want it to cease. I promise to myself, but ultimately my siblings, that my familial passion will never go away.
