Be Your Own Biggest Fan by Rosalita - January 2016 Scholarship Essay
One New Year’s resolution that will help me become a better student in 2016, is to be happy. I want to be happy with my surroundings, with my work, with my choices, and most importantly, with myself. I know that without happiness, the world seems bleak. An individual’s ability to become motivated is faltered, and it becomes almost impossible to concentrate.
Throughout 2015, I struggled with the ability to find joy within myself. I put more pressure on myself than was healthy, and I held myself to impossible standards. I started college with the mindset that I would achieve exactly what I had accomplished throughout high school. That I would maintain, if not exceed, the same GPA. However, that was not the case. I struggled with things I never imagined I would. I became an outsider in a school I fought so hard to be a part of, and I tore myself apart because of it.
This will not be my 2016. This will be my past, and I will learn from it. I will work harder to prove my abilities. I will push myself to continue to put myself out there no matter what the consequences. I will strive to be happier, because I know that if I believe in myself, there is no one to tell me I cannot and I will not succeed. Without happiness, I am my only limit; but with it, I am my biggest fan.
