High School: My $0.02 by Ridge - November 2014 Scholarship Essay

High School... I remember walking into the dimmed foyer as the football team yelled "fresh meat!", it was terrifying I thought, but it only got better. Being from a small town with a single school district consisting of three schools, you get to know everyone pretty well, almost too well and eventually, they begin to become part of your family.

In middle school I took advanced classes so I would be able to take calculus my senior year in high school. This helped a lot because as I got into high school I was taking a class called geometry (consisting of triangles and other such shapes) with sophomores and even juniors! It seems like a scary situation, but it wasn't, they began to realize that the little freshman that were sitting in the front of the class were on the same knowledge level as them and were in the class for the same purpose. It put the freshman into perspective and honestly, I received a lot of respect from not only them, but also most of the school!

My best advice to all of the incoming freshman is just to take a deep breathe, relax, and get involved in different programs/clubs that interest you, and definitely take the most advanced courses that you are allowed. Even if you don't get a good grade in the class, colleges look at this and recognize that you got involved and gave it a try, at the very least you will gain a few friends in the process, I know I did. Now as a senior, half of my close friends are in their second year of college, and they are great people to look up to for not only school, but also life, and they become part of your family.
