Are leadership skills necessary for college success? Why or why not? by Rebekah - March 2015 Scholarship Essay
Leadership skills are necessary for college success. If you can't lead yourself into making a decision to go to college, how will you have success? I realize there are different levels of leadership and every leader has a different role. Although I feel that students in college have a level of leadership or wouldn't be there to begin with. I believe leadership is a choice. You can choose to lead yourself into the decision to further your education or you can choose to settle for where you are.
I believe that if you can lead yourself then you can develop greater leadership skills later. Generally the people that for whatever reason don't go to college have trouble leading themselves into greater job positions and get comfortable where they are. This is another reason I believe you have to have leadership skills to even get started. While attending college I have developed my leadership skills even more. College gives you confidence in area of expertise you desire, which helps develop the leadership skills you already have. Also the knowledge that you gain from the courses required to graduate in your field help gain confidence which I believe helps you be a better leader.
To be a leader you have to lead yourself. I firmly believe that college will make you a better leader, but you have to have those skills to begin with, so you have something to work with. You have to be determined to make the step to go to college and lead yourself to finish. College is a commitment. A commitment that is well worth the time.
