Confidence of Choice by Rebekah - September 2020 Scholarship Essay

My biggest goal this school year is to feel confident in my future educational goals. As a high school senior, I already have a good idea of the field I want to go into and the academic pathway it will take to get there. Though I have a good idea, I want to have a pretty solid plan by the end of this school year as well as a confident dream in my specific future career.

I am a person that likes to have everything planned out. I plan out the small things in life, and the big things are just as, if not more, important to have planned out. However, these larger things, like my future career, will take a lot more work and research to form a plan for. Having a plan will make it easier to work towards, and eventually achieve. In addition, this would take off some of the inevitable stress of going into college.

I have already started working on this goal, as it will always be a work in progress. Over the quarantine period in 2020, I did lots of research on my options for schools, degrees, and potential careers. I wanted to get as much information and talk to as many people as possible in order to have the resources to make the best decision possible.

This year, I am also taking classes that further push me towards this goal. All of my classes are biology focused, with the intention of solidifying my choice to go into the field of immunology. I have also found online introductory class platforms that will allow me to further explore the specific biomedical tracks. Rather than doing this in my first year of college, being able to make my choice of major confidently will greatly reduce my stress to create a career plan in my future years.

Though this goal is not specifically measurable, I believe that I will have accomplished my goal when I am able to confidently tell another person the specific plan for my future education and career.
