Not a Fan by Rebekah - May 2017 Scholarship Essay
My favorite book is Not a Fan by Kyle Idleman. This book encourages the readers not to stand on the sidelines, but to get involved and fight the good fight. This a book is an inspirational devotional book.
This book has been inspirational to me as it encourages me to be more than just a fan. I was talking to some friends I do not really watch sports is because I want to be involved in them. Well, my friend told me that I should read Not a Fan. I picked up Not a Fan and I could not put it down. Kyle Idleman did an amazing job of writing his book and giving examples of how to be involved in the ministry. It was an eye-opener. I was really just a fan and nothing more. I sat in the pews and just listened to the pastor. I went to Sunday School and Youth Group, but not much more. After I read that book, I wanted to be more than just a fan, but someone who actually worked alongside the King. Going to church was not enough. Sitting in the pews is just the same as sitting on the sidelines and rooting on your team. No, Kyle Idleman encouraged his readers to get involved in the ministry and to find other ways to serve God. I do not just sit in the pews anymore, but instead I get involved in Youth Group and in other ministries. I do not just want to be a fan, but I want to be a not a fan. I would say that this book has definitely changed my life for the better. It is amazing to see how much I grew by serving God. I started to see service in a different light. When you serve others, you are serving not only them, but God also. I want to serve my God and not just be His fan.
I would encourage other Christians to read Not a Fan. It will be inspiration to them too. This book not only changed my life, but it can change yours too.
