Are leadership skills necessary for college success? Why or why not? by Ray - March 2015 Scholarship Essay
Before determining whether or not leadership skills are necessary for college success, you need to ask “what defines a leader.” The main characteristic that truly defines a leader is displaying the ability and having the constant habit of leading by example. You can be the most charismatic, confident and motivating individual but at the end of the day a true leader leads by example because actions speak louder than words.
As a leader in college, it is crucial to set a good example for other students by achieving straight A’s in every class. Straight A’s aren’t achieved by simply showing up to class on test dates. It takes showing up to class, paying close attention, quality note taking, rewriting your notes, setting time aside every day to study your notes, and the constant repeating of this cycle every day until it becomes a habit. It takes commitment and a never ending drive to get the most out of your class in order to become successful in college. Many have the will to get good grades in college, but few have the will to prepare yourself every day for the test date. Every college student that stays committed to the constant of preparation every day is a true leader for everyone around them as they are leading by example and displaying the skills of a true leader. That is why leadership skills are necessary for college success.
