A Journey of Epic Proportions by Raiden - November 2014 Scholarship Essay

Listen up, Freshmen! You are about to start one of the best and worst parts of your life. The next four years will be a journey of epic proportions, of dire consequences, and complex tales of woe. Listen to my advice, though, and you might just make it out alive.

If I learned anything in my time as a high schooler, myself, it is that time management is key. You will never make it out intact if you are frivolous with the time you have. My freshman year I spent about four times as much time doing school as I did the year before. By now, I’ve managed to keep my grades up yet still use much less time per day. All of it just comes down to managing one’s time.

There are multiple ways one can keep on top of these dragons standing against them. My favorite way is prioritize and take out. See what needs to be done first. Do you only have two days to work on that project, and a week to work on this other one? Do most of your work on that first one but still start working on the second one. This prioritizing of projects allows for one to focus more on what needs to get done and getting it done.

As well, to take out these projects one needs to stay focused. Time spent goofing around will not help slay these dragons. The only way to do that is to stay focused, to make the 40 minutes you spend on that essay to be completely worthwhile and be productive. This will get you done with homework and school faster than otherwise. Thus, giving one time to spend actually goofing off, and not having the lingering threat of these projects hanging over one’s head. This was my biggest problem my first year.

Managing your time is of vital importance. In fact, it might be omni-important. To keep track of what needs to be done when is an incredibly important part of making it out of these next four years without it taking you down. There will be a day where all the school work will bring us down, but these next four years are not that day!
