My Advice to a high school freshman by Raeleen - November 2014 Scholarship Essay
Dear High School Freshman,
Congratulations! You have made it this far! You are almost there to gradating! I know you are scared right now, roaming the halls trying to find your classrooms. Trying to make new friends or find someone you at least know so that you don't feel alienated and alone. But guess what? This time right now is the best time to start thinking about your future and who you want to become. How you want to shape yourself as an honorable person.
Here is my advice to you- YOU the person who is the future of our society. Whether you have or have not chosen the career path you want to venture down, don't worry. Life always throws curve balls. These situations will help mold and define who you are. Make sure you don't let your education falter with parties or doing too many sports or extracurricular activities. Keep up with your homework (especially in sciences, mathematics, and English/grammar). No matter what career you choose, you will have to implement these subjects into your every day life as an adult.
Start out now as a freshman in high school and learning these skills will take you further than others who slack off and fall behind. Don't be afraid to learn how to balance a checkbook, or pick up a dictionary and look up definitions of random words and then use them in a sentence. And, whatever you do- don't forget to read the classics. Even if some of them may bore you to death.
What I am trying to tell you is that no matter what you learn IN the classroom, you can always teach yourself more OUTSIDE of the classroom. You don't need a teacher to teach you- you can also teach yourself. It will help you in the long run in life.
Sincerely,
Someone Who Knows
