I glare down at my test absolutely puzzled by a calculus problem. I sigh internally and wonder how I could possibly pass this. I look up and I see other students blatantly cheating! They were just exchanging answers like it was gossip at lunch. I shook my head. Even though I feel like I'm not going to do very well on the test, at least I'm going to stay true to myself. And I believe that is what a leader is. Staying true to yourself and your beliefs even when others are following the trends is what being a leader is all about. Having leadership skills is essential to college success.

Leadership skills are important for college success because in college you have to focus on you and your academics. Being a leader is saying even though I want to stay out late and have fun with my friends, I'm going to stay in and study for that big test next week. You have to make choices for yourself and in college this is imperative because the only person who cares about you doing well in college is you! Another aspect of being a leader is standing up for what you think is right. If someone offers you drugs or alcohol at a party, you need to be a leader and say no. Drugs and alcohol will not help your success in college and it takes leadership skills to deny these.

Leadership skills are extremely important to your success in college because they help you focus on your academics and make good choices. Leadership is an important quality for all of us to have and we should take time to develop our skills because they help us also develop collegiate success.
