These Next Four Years by Rachel - November 2014 Scholarship Essay

If you could have a super power, what would it be? Invisibility, super speed, the ability to fly? The possibilities are endless. Dear incoming high school freshmen, I promise that the answer to that question is going to change when you are sitting in your cap and gown, surrounded by the people you grew up with, scared to death about what your next move is going to be when it comes to being an adult. You are going to want more than anything to travel back in time. If there is any thing I could tell you and know that you would take my advice, it would be to live it up during high school and to never take that time for granted.

No matter how scared you are right now about going to the big school with the big sophomores, juniors, and seniors, I promise it will soon be a walk in the park. You will probably get a lost a few times or be really intimidated and that is okay. Before you know it, kid, you are going to be the top dog at that school. You are going to walk the halls one day and realize you are the big and scary senior and you are going to wonder if you were ever as small as those tiny freshmen. High school will be one of the best times of your life. You are going to make mistakes which will turn into beautiful life lessons, you will make awesome memories that you will NEVER forget. I promise the "bad" things you go through will end soon and you will realize they were never that bad. So just promise me that you will step back often throughout these next four years and you will know that these are years you will never get back. Hold onto the feelings you have, hold onto the memories, and remember that time doesn't slow down. I know it is not proven, but I am pretty sure if anything, all time does is speed up. Before you know it, you will be a freshmen in college and you will have to climb to the top of the food chain again. Enjoy your next four years and make the most out of them before you are laying in your dorm one night wishing you could go back and do the things you didn't do. Try everything and find out who you really are.
