Education Improvement by Precious - March 2017 Scholarship Essay
An important topic I would want to give a speech about to a school-wide audience would be about the education system.
The speech as follows:
Today's education system is deeply awry. The education system's endeavor to conform the way students think and control every aspect of their learning and life is causing more harm than good. Today you have some of the highest mental illnesses and suicide rates all because of the stress school produces. Schools today are descending away from the true focus of education. Americans are replacing effective teaching with the intention just to overwork students. Schools today are not preparing students to be lifelong learners and successful participants in the real world at an competent level.
Schools kill creativity. Students are not given the capabilities to explore their areas of interest. Ideas that do not fit within assignment guidelines are and disregarded and are never to be looked or spoken of again. Many students cannot learn or express themselves in this type of environment which limits their curious natures and personal passions. These restrictions can prevent learning more than they inhibit. This not only causes students to lose their natural creativity but also prevent students from burgeoning start their maximum potential.
The education system is too controlling over students. Schools prevent students excelling at their own pace, as intended by nature. Students are forced to obtain good grades over learning at their own speed for their own asset and personal attainment. A by-product of today’s education is the extremely problematic health problems in students. Extreme pressure, lack of sleep, and piles of work are causing kids to just break. No student can be successful if he or she is not healthy. Students can learn just as much about themselves and the world from real life experiences versus structured courses in school.
For these reasons, along with various others, the education system is operating poorly. Students are not becoming lifelong learners because their creativity and love of learning is stifled. They are not being prepared to be successful participants in the real world. The competitive environment that the schools provide for students want to have great grades rather than discovering the answers to their innate curiosities. The pressure to succeed in school can result in compromised health and high amounts of stress. This is not how education should be. Students should be guided to become the best possible version of themselves, not them being defined by grades.
