The Purpose of an Education by Porschia - April 2015 Scholarship Essay

In my opinion an educations doesn’t have just one purpose. I believe an education is the key to the many opportunities that life administers to us for success. As a child I thought that an education was just temporary knowledge until I entered the real world and acquired my dream job. Well, now that I have matured and became a college student I know that attaining that job is not the purpose, but it is the result of a great and valuable education. Education is not temporary, in fact, an education is long term knowledge that will impact the everyday life of anyone who is trying to achieve and succeed in reaching their goals and more. The knowledge gained from a good education is not only learned in a classroom or through a computer screen, but it can also be learned from the experiences of life. Without an education those experiences would go unknown, unsolved, and inexperienced.

An education offers the purposes of learning, attaining knowledge, of experiencing life, and reaching goals. So, see there can’t be just one purpose. An education is worldwide knowledge experienced and taught in various ways throughout the nation. For example, World travelers have vast knowledge of the world. Some travel for excitement and others travel for knowledge or both. They learn about the different customs, rituals, languages, habits, and education of other people from different countries. Every country has their particular style of teaching and learning. People aren’t the only ones that we learn from either, we learn from animals as well. Animal researchers that explore and examine animals in their natural habitats compare them to humans and learn from them. They find cures and treatments for diseases from animals because they can have the same type of symptoms as humans.

As a college student I have noticed that college students and graduates use every aspect of a good education. College students are on their own journey to reaching goals and experiencing life. We learn constantly and the knowledge sticks because the knowledge is taught for the profession of your choice. The students and the graduates take advantage of every purpose of education because sometimes just information on one profession isn’t enough. College students and graduates change their majors various times and continue to come back even after graduating. This is their way of furthering their education and using the limitless opportunities of an education.

An education offers a boundless, global, vast land of opportunities. If education had just one purpose it would be limited to one category, which means limiting the extensive knowledge that the world has to offer. An education doesn’t have to be just scientific or mathematical knowledge learned in a school or university. The education presented each day is limitless whether it be learning how to tie a shoe or discovering a new cure. The purposes of an education are already known, it’s just up to you to realize them and take advantage of those opportunities.
