It Is About the Money..Right? by Parker - April 2015 Scholarship Essay
There many different kinds of people in our world today and I believe those who choose to get an education are also very different. Anyone would say that getting an education is all about the money, but is it really all about the money? Part of me thinks yes, but I believe it is more than the money. Education is about dreams and goals. It is about experiencing new things and putting yourself in a situation that forces you to grow and find yourself.
I believe that if someone were to go to college solely for the money it would be very tough. College is a big commitment and also a big commitment to you and your families wallet. I could not imagine going through everyday resenting my classes without any interest at all. A lot of these students are probably used to the feeling though. I believe most college students have a dream or a life goal to accomplish and that is what makes people strive harder to be better than the person right next to them. For example, most professional athletes these days don't get drafted out of high school. Most of them have to put in the work to get accepted into a college academically and also show the ability to play at the college level. These students are using college to follow their dreams and goals in life. Also, students that aren't promised a solid career such as an art major are also in college because of their dreams. For these students the purpose of college is to progress, grow, and take another step further toward their dreams. I would have to say average college students are interested in most of their classes and studies. The money is just a small portion of the big picture. The experiences in new places with new people and the activities that take place are a big part of it. Going through the good times but also the bad times is the best part. Nothing great is achieved easily and I am sure most, if not all college graduates are proud in themselves for the things they went through for the last four years of their lives.
College gives people a huge opportunity to be themselves and take pride in it. It is almost as if everyone is given a fresh start and I am sure that is an awesome but strange feeling. The purpose of education is to live, learn, and adapt. It is to take pride in yourself for the struggles previously accomplished. Education is training for a goal. It's about the dedication and commitment one takes in their studies. Even though there are so many different people in college they all come together with a few common goals. These include dreams, success, fun, adventure, new things, struggle, skill, learning, and the gratitude of achieving the ability to step ahead in front of the person next to them.
