My dream program by Paige - August 2020 Scholarship Essay

If I were to design my dream college program, regardless of rules and what not, I have a few ideas I could use. First of all, the teachers would be extremely kind and love to teach. There are many courses I have taken in which the professors are only there to get paid and it shows and, in my opinion, is detrimental to learning. When professors love the material they are teaching it enhances the experience for students and leads to better grades and more class participation I would also implement a policy for absences. There would be options to watch the lecture online if a student was feeling sick on a day of lecture and as long as they watched before the next lecture, they would not be penalized. I would include mental health days here as well. As a college student some days feel like the world is crashing down on you, and having to go sit through a lecture during one of those days is torture. If there was an option for watching online it could save a student from going through that. There would be free mental health services for anyone who needed them as well.
Apart from those services, there would also be pets allowed on campus for those living on campus. I am a big pet enthusiast and not having the comfort of your dog or cat on campus stinks sometimes. This program would offer one on one time with the professor if needed, whether it be in person or virtually. This program would provide extra study material, study guides, worksheets, and opportunity for points other than just tests. This program would offer blended learning, meaning you could come in person or online at your behest, however there would be lectures on specified days and students would be responsible for learning the material if they did not want to join synchronously. There would be small quizzes at the end of lectures for every class that reinforce the main points. The class would be allowed to work together on these quizzes. One of the hardest classes I have ever taken let us do this and my entire cohort felt so much more comfortable with the material.
Overall, my dream program includes caring teachers, more pets, and more freedom. College students are becoming adults and deserve a little bit of freedom at least. If this were the program I was currently in I feel that more of my classmates would have go through to our next semester as opposed to leaving the program.
