Math is for you by P.O. Box 477 - May 2014 Scholarship Essay

My freshman year in high school was just like everyone else. I was excited to be in high school but I did not really care much about school. I still wanted to get good grades but nothing really interested me until one day my Algebra teacher opened my eyes. I would always go to class and take notes but I was always bored in that class. At the end of the year my Algebra teacher pulled me aside and told me that he thinks the next year I should go into Honors Geometry. He told me they move at a faster pace but I won't be as bored as I was in his class. I had the highest grade in my math class and did not even realize I was good at math until my teacher pointed it out. I took his advice and I took Honors Geometry and I discovered that I did enjoy the faster pace and discovered that I may want to find a major that uses math. I then started looking into Engineering and that is my current major and none of this would ever have happened if it wasn't for my Algebra teacher.

You never realize who can and will impact your life until it happens. I would not be where I am now if it was not for my teacher opening my eyes. In high school, I thought I was going to be an elementary teacher but slowly discovered my love for math and science. It is interesting to think of how one person can change your perception. My freshman year I hated math like most students do and thought "what is the point" but now I see everyday the kind of importance math has in the world and I will soon become a part of it.
