Sometimes Students Know What's Right by Osvaldo - January 2015 Scholarship Essay
Nowadays, teachers are always looking for new ways or ideas that could help the way that they teach their students at school. Whether it be a certain way that they talk and interact with their students or new pieces of technology, they try to figure out if it will be worth the time of trying out a new tactic. A lot of times, teachers realize that they wasted time trying this new tactic because either the students didn't like it or because it took teachers out their comfort zones. I think one great tactic that would cause great success for the teachers and students would be if teachers took some advice from the students that they are teaching. The students are the ones who will take the things that they are taught to other places in life, so therefore, the students should be able to input some opinion on how the topics should be taught and how they can absorb information the best that they can so that they can get the best education possible.
As time goes on, we start to realize how much information students can really soak up. Some more than others but the point is that we can gain a lot of information that can take us far into the future. Some teachers don't see that however. Some teachers feel that since they have the college degree, that automatically makes them the one who has all the knowledge, not letting the students put in opinions during the class. But teachers need to start realizing that a lot of students have great ideas on how to teach a certain topic. These ideas can help make a teachers job both easier and more enjoyable. For example, if a teacher has a class where students learn better through visual learning but the teacher teaches through auditory learning, the students are at a disadvantage because the style of teaching doesn't help them learn. This is why teachers should figure out with their students which way of learning is better so that the job can be easier for both the students and teachers.
Now if teachers were to use this tactic to teach their students, there is not a 100 percent chance it would work. There could be a mix between different types of learning for the kids in the class, which could be hard to handle. There is no way that this could solve the problem and make education better but the better the system of education is for students, the better off they will be when they head off to college and get ready for the real world. After all, high school is just the step before college. Students should get the best education they can before they walk on to the campus of a university.
