A Female Hero by Olivia - March 2021 Scholarship Essay
Young girls in our world are seen as saplings; vulnerable and delicate. If cared for and nourished the right way we can become powerful oaks, taking on the pressure that society throws our way and standing tall no matter how heavy the burden is. However, not all saplings get the care and support that they need so they crumple under the pressure. Women are strong and it’s crucial that young girls get to see their strength being admired and appreciated in everyday life. The United States elected Kamala Harris to be the nation’s forty ninth vice president. Harris is a remarkable female for everyone to look up to. She is our first female VP and we all get to feel empowered by a woman helping to lead our country with honor.
I cherish every moment that our world and more specifically, our country lifts up women and sees them as the rockstars that they are. It inspires change in our nation and it inspires me. I work persistently in school every day so that I can be the next female to lift someone up and help them become the oak tree they were destined to be.
Kamala Harris did not have an easy road to the top. She faced many obstacles along the way. However, she didn’t use those obstacles as barriers, but more as challenges to face and overcome. I have learned from her that the difficulties that we face only make us stronger. We can’t become great if we don’t experience failure and hardships because they shape our personality and help us learn more about ourselves. Challenges should not bring us down. They should motivate us to be better.
As I go through school, I look up to Harris and everything she has accomplished. If her success was possible, then mine is too. She became the first female vice president, so I can become an incredible doctor that not only patches up bruises and mends broken bones, but also someone who empowers those around me and encourages them to be the best versions of themselves. Harris started out the same way I am right now. She was once a young girl entering college to start the next phase in her life. Kamala Harris believed she could do it and she did, so I can too. I am finding my way in the world with Kamala Harris as my guide.
