Determination by olamide - December 2019 Scholarship Essay

My legs are shaking, my heart rates are faster than normal. As the coordinator says “final call for the 100m race”, I look around and think about how fast the other girls look and also how many people are watching over me. I look forward to how my team will encourage me on the whole race, and that causes me to improve.

My school’s track team is very competitive, and we compete against each other and also ourselves.
Yes, it is physically painful to keep up with the drills every day.

A few years back if I was asked

"Would you consider doing track and field?" the answer was NO

The irritating part of running around the track and not getting the desired time or the moments of disregarding everything around and only thinking about how to improve or do better. The moments that I must recall on the practice I have been through in order to win a race

Apart from all these, the best part of being in this community is the unique bond among the team. My teammates are my motivation because they influence me during practice even when I am on the edge of giving up.

Being part of this family, I have learned to accept challenges and also not to give up. I am blessed to be part of a community that supports me and helps me during difficulties.

Right now if I am asked the same question

Would you consider doing track and field?

I would proudly say yes because I have learned a lot about myself.

I look out for others who look lost and embrace them to a family that will support them and encourages them.
By joining the school's track team I have learned how to never give up even though it would be difficult in achieving the goal. through this activity, I have also learned that determination is the key to success.
