Learning Responsibility Through Mistakes by Noah - February 2017 Scholarship Essay

There have been multiple times in my lifetime where I have had to learn responsibility the hard way but just recently, I had a wake-call making me realize I needed to start being more responsible. Now, while I wish I had handled the situation correctly the first time, I agree with you scholars that I am to learn from that mistake and learn I have.

While I was enjoying my last true summer of being in high school, I neglected to make it a priority to ensure everything was taken care of for my senior year. I am currently enrolled in a college Psychology course at Piedmont Community College in my hometown of Roxboro, NC and not to my knowledge, the class started before actual school started. My good friend texted me on one of the class days and asked me where I was which I was completely incompetent to the reason she asked it. Come to find out, it was the second day of our Psychology class so I had successfully missed two days of the class. My father scolded me for this, rightfully so, and made it a life lesson which would impact so far my senior year and what I hope to be my future. I spent some time in prayer and in simply meditation thinking to myself how I would fix this and begging GOD to put me in the class somehow. It ended up working out and now I am keeping good grades in aforementioned Psychology course, however, from that point forward I have kept notes and reminders for myself excessively.

I have made it an initiative with school and everything important to me outside of academics to take care of what needs to be taken care of immediately if not sooner or to at the very least immediately make a note for myself to remember it. Already it has helped me in being accountable with my family and those around me, gotten me a nomination for your fine scholarship, and helped me to stay on track for my post-graduation plans.

Though this situation may have seemed small to some, it was big for me. It made me realize the importance of priorities and responsibility and as with everything else, I have compulsively tried to be one of the most responsible and knowledgeable men this world has ever seen.
