My Valuable Lesson by Nicole - November 2013 Scholarship Essay
We learn something every day, hour, minute, and possibly second. We do not realize it. Sometimes, we might not take it as a lesson learned and other times we might take it as a lesson well-learned. Even if it is something minor, such as learning that it is cold outside or something more vital such as an important road being closed down and you are already running late. Minor things happen day by day, but we fail to realize the importance of the little lessons that we have learned. The biggest lesson I have learned the past three years in high school is something that most people should realize. Being yourself is one of the most important things you will learn and will get you far in life.
A lot of times, we do not realize how bad our peers can impact us. Especially as an adolescent we need to be able to know ourselves before we make bad decisions. It is tough being judged, I have been there. I have always been the outcast because I have never cared to fit in. Everyone is unique in every aspect of life. We need to realize this as a society and teach it among other adolescents. Being true to yourself, respecting yourself, and understanding who you are-that is what is important. It is highly imperative to me to be myself and to teach others that it is okay to stand out.
My valuable lesson I want to share is to simply be you. Do not give into peer pressure, besides; in the long run people will respect you a lot more if you are true to you. Trust me, you will meet wonderful people and do absolutely amazing things.
