It will all be ok by Nicole - April 2021 Scholarship Essay

Five years ago, I would have told a doubtful young woman that no matter how many mistakes you make, everything will turn out ok in the end.

To her, I would say:

You may have attended college in the past and not had a clear path or reason why you were there. And it’s ok.

You may have worked at a job for years where you were not appreciated or compensated for all the stress, tears, and hours you dedicated to produce good work and get ahead. And it’s ok.

You may have not understood the sacrifices your family made to get you to where you are today, and you regret how you treated them in the past. And it’s ok.

You may have not had a clear judgment on others. You may have let people with ill intentions become your friends while letting others slip away who you wish were still by your side today. And it’s ok.

You wish you would have been more proactive about communicating with loved ones to avoid blowing up at someone after weeks or months of saying nothing. And it’s ok.

But gradually, over time, you may learn that your mistakes aren’t mistakes at all.

Going to college when you were young and inexperienced gave you opportunities to get that job that you hated, which showed you what you don’t want to do for a living.

Not appreciating your family’s actions in the past, made you see how important they are in your life today.

Losing friendships made you appreciate and value the people in your life now.

Speaking up for yourself has shown you what is truly important to you.

Five years ago, I would tell the young woman I see in the mirror today that each action you take will lead you to where you are today and there are no right or wrong steps.

In the end, each step you take will be ok.
