My Study Method by Nathan - January 2014 Scholarship Essay

The most productive study method I have is rewriting my notes. I do this mostly for things like math and physics equations, or command sequences for JROTC. Rewriting down notes works because it makes you read what you wrote down, and spend time thinking about it by writing it down. Writing it down also allows you to memorize what it looked like on the page, ad what was around it, and when I remember something that I memorized by writing down, I remember other facts too.

When I am studying for something that isn’t reciting something word for word in order, I use a different method. I try to make a connection between facts, though the connection can be a stretch sometimes. An example from JROTC is that the TRADOC Command Commander’s name is Robert Cone, and “RAD” resembles Robert, and “OC” reminds me of Cone. I’ve used this method a lot, and it hardly ever fails.

The third study method I have is for studying notes I wrote in class. To remember my notes I do something fairly simple, and turn on some music and read them over. If the teacher said something specific from the notes would be on the test I’ll mark that note and make sure to know that, and give the marked notes priority.
