What subject would I add to the high school curriculum? by Najah - August 2015 Scholarship Essay

In high school students learn the basics of education to a higher level. Thus may include pre calculus which is a part of math, and physics or chemistry which is a part of science, but is unlikely that people will use this type of math or science in their everyday life. I believe that along with the school curriculum, subjects should be added that we more beneficial to our everyday life.

If I could add one more subject to the American high school curriculum, I would add financial literacy. I think that it is very important for people especially students to know how to manage and invest their money. This is something that is very critical to life because this may help them in an emergency. Teenagers get mad when they don't get their monies worth for something or when they realize something is wrong with a purchase they may have made, and that can all be changed with financial literacy. It is very important that teenagers know how to manage their money rather than just spending it because they have it. Financial literacy is something is something that is critical to everyday life and without knowing the basics of financial literacy, I believe that their will be a lot of problems with the handling of money. Being financially literate will make a big change instead of just knowing that you have money that you can use.e

Financial literacy is something that is crucial to life and it is fine that more extensive teachings are being taught in school because it is part of the curriculum, but knowledge that you will need for the rest of your life shouldn't hurt if added to the curriculum.
