Secure Your Future by Myra - April 2020 Scholarship Essay
Today, in the modern world, occupations are constantly advancing. And the reality is that college plays a significant aspect for a person’s secure future. College is the treasure chest of potential, and shapes one’s future. If one has access to a college education, he or she should definitely take the chance and go to college. With a college education, a pupil will be able to have a higher paying occupation, transform into an adult, and live a happier life.
The first reason is the most obvious: a person will have a better pay if he or she attends college. Studies show the average salary for a college graduate is higher than the median salary for a person who only graduated from high school. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, people with a college degree in 2018 made about $1198 a week on average. On the other hand, on average, someone with a college degree merely made $730. Not only do college graduates earn significantly more money, but also they are financially stable. As a teenager, future financial stability may seem like tomorrow’s worries, but if one does not plan for the future, it will not be a delight. Most people plan to settle down and raise a family, and although children are a blessing to the home, they are also an expense. Therefore, rather than bathing in stress and working countless hours to support a family, one should make the effort to gain a college education and have stable employment.
Not only does college raise the chances of a future, but also it also is responsible for the birth of adulthood. When someone goes to the college, he or she creates the person they were meant to be. A person could reflect on the student he or she was in high school and transform into an adult. For some people, this experience may be more drastic than others. Some may be more loud and outgoing while they were in school while others may become more introverted. Others may not have such drastic changes. But, every single person grows during their college experience, and therefore it should not be sacrificed. Every person should go to college and make something of themselves.
The success or failures during college are what shape a person’s happier future. It is not only about the money. It is also about knowledge. When someone goes to college, they expand their possibilities. And, this leads to smarter decisions. People who have a college education tend to get themselves steady jobs, and therefore, are less likely to smoke. It does not stop at smoking. They are also more likely to eat healthier and visit a doctor regularly. And, health benefits come with a job and that is equivalent to less stress! And, satisfaction is one of the aspects of life that bring much joy to a person. Studies have reported that fifty-five percent of college graduates are highly satisfied with the work that is done, but only forty percent of non-graduates were able to reciprocate those feelings.
Overall, college is an experience that no one should miss. Not only could one gain more knowledge, but also he or she can secure their future. They say you should learn something new everyday, afterall.
