The Advice I Give To You Is... by Morgan - November 2014 Scholarship Essay

As a high school freshman, there are many things to worry about. As a freshman, worrying about fitting in with other students, keeping up with school work, and getting prepared for college are all common frets. However, there are a few things I would recommend for an incoming Freshman. If I were to give advice to a high school freshman, it would be to study hard for the ACT or SAT, get help in the subjects that are tough and to join exciting extra curricular activities.

Incoming freshman will face up to hundreds of tests throughout their high school careers. However, some of these tests, such as the SAT and ACT, are more important than others. By beginning to study as a freshman for the SAT and ACT, they are giving themselves a large advantage over those who begin studying in their later years of high school. By the time these freshman are ready to take on these tests, they will have years upon years of knowledge under their belts. Outstanding scores on the SAT and ACT can help these freshman get into college much easier, and could even help them to get a full-ride scholarship for their ideal school.

Along with tough tests, freshman will also most likely struggle in certain subjects. If students do not reach out for help in these subjects, it can determine either a fantastic grade point average, or one that is not so fantastic. More than usual, teachers are happy to tutor students after school, or recommend a tutor that will help them fight past the tough lessons. Students should never be afraid to ask for help. This is a huge part of surviving in high school.

Lastly, a freshman should involve themselves in extra curricular activities. Most high schools have a variety of extra curricular activities to choose from, such as choir, theater and dance. By joining these activities, students will be able to attract colleges with more ease, compared to a student who decided not to join anything. Not only are these activities attractive on applications, but they are also a lot of fun!

If I were to give advice to a high school freshman, it would be to study hard for the ACT or SAT, get help in the subjects that are tough and to join exciting extra curricular activities. This is the advice I would give to freshman. These are the things I have found to be the most important and beneficial. Although high school can be a blast, it can also be a large determining factor for one's future. For an incoming freshman, it is important to set themselves up for the best possible things ahead.
