Making A Difference With The Right Training by Molly - April 2020 Scholarship Essay
My education has become an important aspect of my life because I believe that knowledge gives us an understanding of the world around us. When choosing my career path, I decided to let my creativity accompany me. I’ve always had an interest in technology and circuits, but also a strong suit and curiosity in mathematics and physics. After deciding to take a variety of science courses throughout high school, my teacher quickly noticed my ambitions and encouraged me to take a study in the field of STEM. Advancing my education includes getting a degree in Electrical Engineering Technology. Luckily through my intended college, I can specify the major even further, leading me to choose a specialization in Power Systems. With this job, I plan to better the environment by improving power systems by designing them to be eco-friendlier, more dependable, and environmentally safer. I am interested to work on and monitoring geothermal and solar electric systems or working for a company that installs and designs these technologies.
Going into a STEM field requires hard work, dedication, and motivation. While being a high school student, I have taken numerous college level and dual credit courses. These courses required extra effort and higher performance from the student than regular classes ask. Being in honors and college-level courses have prepared and readied me for the new, educational challenges that lay ahead of me. If the task is studying ahead of time for an exam, doing hands-on teamwork , or participating in a co-op, I wish to take on the challenge. I believe that having obstacles drives people harder to achieve their goals.
As an electrical engineer, I know that I will be ensuring safety and improving the efficiency and dependability of people’s electric equipment and devices that are used on a daily basis. Not only do I want to succeed in my job, but I want to be a role model for other females in the field of STEM. In my anticipated career, a challenge I will face is being a female in a field that has one of the lowest percentage rates of women with this occupation. I do not intend to let this stop me from trying my hardest to succeed in this job. I trust that I can excel with the education and training I will receive, my thriving ambition, a willing hand, and absolute commitment. Hopefully, through my perseverance, I can inspire some girl out there and help her to realize that she can make it too.
Overall, I am looking forward to the next chapter in my life where I can help my community. I know that there might be difficulties along the road, but I believe that my passion for STEM and my dedication will help me to overcome.
