Where Will Mechanical Engineering Take Me? by Mitchell - December 2020 Scholarship Essay

Growing up, I was always attracted towards machines, curious about how they worked. Puzzles and toys of that nature also have an addictive effect on me such that when I solve them, they keep me looking for the next challenge to overcome. It is my passion to figure things out and problem solve, and to be able to do that in furthering my education as a mechanical engineer would be like achieving my lifelong goal. My educational New Year’s resolution for 2021 is to go to college as a mechanical engineering major and to learn how to make a living out of doing what I love: finding solutions to problems.
A career in mechanical engineering is perfect for me to continue doing what I love while I work through life. Mechanical engineers work with their hands and minds to solve real world problems and to make the world a better place for others to live in. In this career, I would be able to solve problems, helping others, I would learn how different things work, fulfilling my passion, and I would also earn money doing what I love. So, in order to get to that point, I have to go to college and learn all about being a mechanical engineer.
This next year, I am going to find out what it takes to be a successful engineer. While taking some of my basic courses, I can focus on researching attributes and qualifications mechanical engineers need to have in order to help the world and make a living. I will also look for mechanical problems such as those in machine efficiency and find a solution pathway to take when I tackle those problems. Of course it won’t be easy, but if I stay focused on my resolution and goals at hand, I should not even be worried about the challenges I’ll face on my path towards becoming a successful mechanical engineer.
