High School: Are you ready? by Mikeala - November 2014 Scholarship Essay

When I was first entering High School, I remember being terrified. No one told me what to expect or even what things were going to be like. I was not even sure if I was capable of being a successful high schooler. Growing up, I was always told how difficult and frightening High School would be. That advice, did not help me out one bit. Instead, it made me not want to go to high school. My first day of high school, was like no other. It felt as though I was learning to walk all over again. All I wanted was for someone to grab my hand, and guide me along the scary journey that awaited me. Now that I am a senior in high school, I wish that someone would have told me what I know now.

My piece of advice to any incoming high school freshman would be to make the most of your high school experience and use that time as an opportunity to prepare for your future. When I first entered high school, I was unaware of how much it actually mattered. I had no idea that there was a way to get your college paid for. Scholarships, grants, loans, even financial aid, I was never told. If you work hard and try your best in High School, you have the possibility of getting a head start on your future. Join clubs and organizations! If I could go back to my freshman year of high school, I would have joined as many clubs as possible. Being in clubs and organizations not only helps you get scholarships, but also gives you the opportunity to learn more diverse things, as well as have some fun. I am sad to say that I was not part of many clubs or organizations.

One’s high school experience, is something that will be remembered forever. High school can be difficult at times, but it is totally worth it. It provides teenagers with the opportunity to become more responsible, as well as, get a little glimpse of the real world. Do not let anyone scare you into thinking high school is too hard or that you will not be able to make it. It might take some time and hard work, but with a little dedication, high school can be a fun and memorable time in anyone’s life. So as you enter high school, remember to make the most of your time and take that time to prepare for what is to come in your bright future.
