Ideal Classroom Enviroment by Miguel - October 2014 Scholarship Essay

Classrooms are essential to modern society because the educational opportunities available will determine how a student will turn out. Will that student become a productive member of society? That can be determined if one looks at how well of a classroom setting he or she was in. My ideal classroom setting would include a small teacher to student ratio and cutting edge technology.

A small student to teacher ratio is absolutely critical of how a student learns. The student may be afraid to ask a question if there are too many people in class, thus hindering the learning process. In a small class, the student would be more likely to speak up. Also, a teacher may be more willing to pay attention to a students needs in a small classroom setting. There is more of a one on one experience, and the student will inevitably learn better.

Technology is essential to a modern day class. Some schools may operate will a chalkboard or whiteboard, and there is nothing wrong with that. However, other schools use Smartboards, and this can be a game changer to education. Smartboards can help with students being more interactive, the showing of videos, and even simple cleanup. There is no mess with a Smartboard. Computers are needed in everyday life, especially in a classroom. You cannot operate on an old MacIntosh, it will be too slow and clunky for new websites and services. Teachers and students are going to need new computers, whether it be Windows or iOS based. We may not think about it on a day-to-day basis, but technology is quite important in education.
