There is no finish line by Michelle - May 2017 Scholarship Essay

Montaigne once carved words saying one can be knowledgeable with other men’s knowledge, but cannot be wise with other men’s wisdom. With an absent-mind on what path one must take in this life, David Brooks abruptly discovers of a path that he can later print for the world to discover as well. The Road to Character is a book that distinctly teaches the man of constructive morals and words of wisdom that expand the man's knowledge of his own life. There are two “Adams” in this world. The one that that desires more than what he can withhold, and the one that finds joy as a moral joy.
All morals exemplified in the Road to Character are all words that express the life of a man or of a women. Truly their paths, consist of abuse, financially instability, or sometimes ambition for more than what one needs. For this reason, through delicate words, one learns of written life lessons that unfold one’s hidden purpose and dignity. Before I read this book, I believed many opportunities would be impossible for me as a young latina. In my mind, opportunities were scarce; therefore, I struggled with living up to American standards which are to become stable because of educational success. This book has taught me that one must descend into the valley of humility and walk up the hill of character. It has been one year since I read this book, and I can confess that I have lived this book. I have found my road to character, and will continue to sprint towards my goals aspirations.
One's path will have numerous obstacles; however in the end, you can count all of these obstacles. The road to character will never end because there is a life beyond our departure from this earth. Our life beyond this earth is the impact our words mark once we leave this earth. The words we leave behind will be the one’s that will continue to run the road of character for us along with everyone else who has joined the race as well. Books can become a template for infinite success; however it is always up to one’s self character if it allows a couple of words from a book to change our life.
