Success = Leadership by Michaela - March 2015 Scholarship Essay

Leadership is the capacity or ability to lead. Some people say not everyone can be a leader, some people just do not want to be. One’s success in college, in relation to leadership, can depend on what the student views success as. One can view success as overcoming their own obstacles and succeeding for themselves. Another can view success as leading one’s self and others to success. This viewpoint can be seen by the students, whether looking to be a leader or not, but in the end, anyone who succeeds in college becomes a leader.

Leaders are also persistent and work to get what they want. Successful college students had to work hard to get where they are. Their degree, or degrees, weren’t just handed to them, if they were, everyone would be getting them. They have earned their success. This does not put them in the non-leadership category. Just as they earned their success, they have earned the right to be called a leader. By pushing themselves they were able to push others.

Leaders are individuals who influence others, either in a positive or negative way. College students who succeed become an epitome for all of the students who want to be successful. As a high school student, I look up to my elders successful or unsuccessful, but in the end I am going to follow the route to success and follow in their footsteps. They have influenced me and become a person I want to follow and therefore they are leading me.

In the end, whether a student’s goal is to just be successful or to lead others to success, they all end up leading others to success. Successful college students show others that success is possible and anyone can do it. Not every student starts college with leadership skills, but throughout the course of their education they develop more and more. They develop skills that lead to their success and make one a role-model and a leader.
