Gap is Not a Mishap by Michael - August 2019 Scholarship Essay

In the competitive, relentless nature that college has become, gap years are often thought of as mistakes. This is not necessarily the case, however, as gap years can be quite beneficial. Gap years can help take stress off of a person's mind. They also allow a person to reorganize and reevaluate their life. The key to a good gap year is all about how one handles it.
One way to make the most of a gap year is to secure a part-time job. This allows an individual to make extra funds to support themselves (and any family they may have). Another way to utilize a gap year is by applying for scholarships. Scholarships are an important and valuable resource. Just because a person is in a gap year, that doesn't mean that they should ignore opportunities to earn money to further their education. A gap year can also be used for a person to research their major. That person can look up detailed information on their major through online course and the library, or they can look for an internship to get a hands-on experience in their major (if this is possible).
Gap years may not always be planned, but they can be productive if one knows how to make use of that year. By focusing on earning money, finding scholarships, and researching their major, one can better prepare themselves for the years that come after a gap year.
