Let me Help you Teach me by Micayla - January 2015 Scholarship Essay
If I was able to tell a teacher a piece of advice to help them teach me, I would tell them to use visual and audio examples. I am a visual and auditory learner. I have to be told a piece of information and I have to see it in order for me to learn it and stay in my brain.
Most students do not learn one way or another. We are complicated humans and we need to see, hear, and/or physically do many different examples to learn. If teachers took more time to present information in more than one way, the students would do better on their exams.
By presenting the information in more than one way, the students hear the piece of information at least twice and it is more likely to stay in their head rather than hearing the information only once. Teachers think students do not pay attention to them, but if they are teaching information in different ways, the students are more likely to pay attention.
I think this will also increase scores on exams. Students are at least hearing and/ or seeing the information at least twice. The students have more of a chance to retain the information and think of it later when it time for them to take an exam.
Teachers should consider teaching in more than one way in order to help their students learn better in the classroom.
