The study method you should use and why. by melissa - January 2014 Scholarship Essay
The study method I have used for years is to listen to music and take very short breaks. Listening to classical music may not be the most fun thing to listen but you become so relaxed. That is what you want to be anyway when you are studying right? If you were to listen to songs with lyrics, you wouldn't be able to concentrate and end up finding yourself writing the words to the song. Taking short breaks is also another way to study. Studying for 5 hours straight is not so great without breaks. Taking at least a 5 minute break can help you not over think and to be able to go right back to work a little more refreshed. Also drinking water and eating a healthy snack can improve your mood and concentration.
Another method is to find pictures of your most favorite actor/actress with their thumbs up (or not)and put little captions on the bottom saying, "You can do this!" or "Don't give up now, you're almost there!" I mean they may not be actually saying that but it does encourage you in a funny sort of way.
The last study method I use is to remember why you are studying. Constantly remind yourself that you are doing this to benefit you even if it is really boring. Encourage yourself to always do better. Something my band director at my high school would tell us is to find someone who is better than you and do better than them. Using that example creates competition and who doesn't like a little competition? Just do not over do it then it is just really lame. Or just study so you won't get your phone, laptop, or IPod taken away from your disappointed parents because of your bad test score.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. I appreciate it.
