Finding you by Megan - November 2014 Scholarship Essay

As cliché as this might sound, take my word for it. Find yourself; in my opinion, that is what high school is made for. Create memories while building your character and unraveling what you are. This is a qui part of the rest of your life. As I am a high school senior, I have many things that I wish I would've tried, that I wish I would've done. Don't let this be you, you have four years to layout the groundwork for whom you want to be!

Joining clubs and sports is a fun external route to aid the process of discovery. Branching out to try new things and testing foreign waters is great for the soul. You may find your life-long friends through these choices. Traveling with teams or even being in the stands creates great amounts of pride for your school. Also, learning about different people can give you a more open approach to life; you may come out the other side of the tunnel as a more respectful, understanding young adult.

Another approach is more internal. Doing things on your own or with family throughout your high school career is essential in growing up and maximizing your years. Picking up writing or any form of art is a terrific way to express yourself, and who knows you might find a strength. Developing the ability to be satisfied in being alone will take you miles. Although it might not be ideal, it is important to have the ability to be independent and be able to appreciate time by yourself.

With all this said, be you. Knowing who you are isn't as easy as it seems. Learn who you are deep to the core; doing this will result in immense amounts of self-worth, self-confidence, and a genuine personality. Following impulses and dreams can take you to places you've never imagined. Growing up and getting financially stable has its place and time, but don’t forget to treat yourself and to discover. You will spend more time with yourself than you will with anyone and everyone combined, so get to know yourself.
