Possibly the Best Years of Your Life by Max - November 2014 Scholarship Essay

High School can be an exciting and adventurous experience. You will mature, make new friends, finally find out what you want to do in your life, and do so many other things. High school does not have to be all about homework and complex classes. You can make it fun by being involved in extra-curricular activities. By joining clubs or organizations, you will be influenced in many ways. This can end up molding you into a bright and productive individual.

One of the best features about high school is that there are many ways to get involved. Whether it is student council, athletics, band or other clubs and organizations, there is always a way. At first, many think that clubs are boring because you have to stay after school and maybe your friend’s are not interested in clubs. However, joining a club can become enjoyable. You get to meet new people who have the same interest as you and form a close bond over your high school years. If you are interested in history, you can join a History Club with other students who enjoy the subject. Also, not all clubs have to revolve around school subjects. There may be a Car Club, Environmental Club, or even a Knitting Club. Furthermore, you may not have to be required to go to all the meetings and you can always try them out. You can show up to the first meeting and if you do not like it you can just get out. If school clubs do not capture your attention, there is always athletics.

Athletics are not for everybody, but if you like playing sports or think you might be good at sports, then it is recommended that you join athletics. You get to practice with your teammates, go out of town, and have plenty of fun. You form a brotherhood/sisterhood with your teammates and will form a relationship with them that is unbreakable. They will help you with any trouble you might have whether it deals with school or personal problems. In addition, if you show that you have talent in basketball, football, volleyball, or any other sport your school offers; you might be granted scholarships for a certain college. However, most scholarships require that you keep a certain GPA.

You have to remember that high school is not all about fun and games. Your grades are very important. Still, by joining clubs you can get a profound knowledge on a subject that you are having trouble with. Clubs are meant to inform you about a specific topic in a way that is amusing and attractive. For example, if you are having trouble with chemistry or physics, and are a member of the Science Club, you can find help with other members. There you can go more in depth about a certain lesson in that subject that you are having trouble with and better comprehend it. Also, clubs might want to make you expand your knowledge in a precise area. For instance, if you join the Environmental Club just for fun, it might turn out that you really like Environmental Science. You can ask your counselor if your school offers a class dealing with that subject. If you were in the Math Club, there is a possibility you will start seeking classes such as Pre-AP Calculus or even go a step further by requesting to take a Calculus class. Clubs are something to fathom and the best part is that there are an ample amount of clubs that you can join. If none of them catch your curiosity, you can talk to an administrator on creating a club.

In the end, it all depends on you. You should do what you want to do, not what your friends want you to do, nor what your parents want you to do. Whether you want to get involved with your school, make new friends, play sports, further your education, or just simply want to add stuff to your college resume, clubs and organizations are a great way to get engaged. You will be able to hang out with your peers after school and definitely make many new friendships. Your high school years will pass by faster than you think and it is important that you create life-lasting memories. By getting in to extracurricular activities in your school, you will not only grow as a person. You will also be able to look back at your high school years and say “I would not change a thing.”
