What Makes Our Lives Valuable? by Matthew - March 2017 Scholarship Essay
What assigns value to our lives? Many have asked questions similar to this, but few are confident in their beliefs in their own opinions about it. What, if anything, makes one person’s life more valuable than another's? There are many different answers to this essential question that could all be correct, which brings up the concept of relativism to this important topic. Can relativism logically be applied in this case?
My perspective on the value and meaning of life is radically different from most others, and it is to be good to others, and serve God. By doing this, I believe that value is added to our lives as fallen sinful people, and by warning others of the afterlife and spreading the word to as many as we can, we are doing a big service to others because we are showing them an opportunity to escape God’s terrible judgment in the afterlife. In doing this noble service, we are contributing the greatest good to everyone on earth because God is good, and there is no blemish in his ways, and who he is; the one and only perfect and good eternal God of the universe. How lucky are we as fallen people to be given such a great gift of mercy and eternal life from the living God?
