Must Haves of A Classroom by Mariyum - July 2020 Scholarship Essay

Since I was small, I had been always shown that school was important. I was always striving to do my best. I wanted to be a top student. Along the way, I can say that my time in school was worth it. I made a lot of friends and also learned to be independent. I remember when I was scared to go to school alone without my mom. Then, I used to walk home from school. I would complete my homework on time. Majority of school was spent in many different classrooms. All the classrooms were organized. Many were decorated with posters and there were also many desks and chairs. Getting the best education also depends on how the classroom is. If I was able to design my classroom, I would base it on the class-size, how the desks are arranged, and how many opportunities are given for the child to improve.
One part of having the best education is class size. When I chose my college, I looked at how big the class was. I wanted a smaller class size because it would have been easier to learn. With a smaller class size, my teachers would be able to help me more, and I would not feel stressed. It would also be much easier for the teacher because she can help his or her students. I would also be able to ask questions and understand more clearly. My teacher would also be able to understand how each of us learn. Whenever I think about a classroom with a huge amount of students, I can not understand how the students learn.
Another part of a classroom is that the desks should be put in groups of three or four. This would help a lot because we can also be more familiar with our classmates and also can help each other. At my high school, me and my classmates were put into groups in many classes. This made learning more fun and easier. When I did not understand something, I would ask my classmates in my group. I did much better in my class even though it was an AP. We could also encourage each other to do good.
Also, students should always have a way to improve their grades. It could be extra credits or re-doing an assignment that they didn’t get a good grade on. Extra credits can help a lot too. With extra points, it can raise a child’s grade to higher. Re-doing an assignment allows a child to learn from previous mistakes and improve. Around the classroom, there should be many posters to help students. Since posters are put up for a long time, students spend a lot of time getting familiar with them. There should be posters around that can help students, In a math classroom, there should be posters around with equations. This will help the child, memorize them if they see them a lot. In English class, there should be grammar rules or vocabulary words. This will help expand vocabulary and also help in our writing. Simple posters can help a lot.
If I was in a classroom, I would definitely look for these things. Everyone has different learning styles. For me, I like to learn with others. Others prefer a quiet environment. Ever since the pandemic, I really miss being in a classroom and hope to return soon.
