Dream Classroom for the Future by Marissa - July 2020 Scholarship Essay

When I become a teacher, I want my students to be impacted on not just what they learn, but being in a positive classroom experience. As a high school senior, I look back on the teachers that I’ve had and I learned a lot in the lessons that they taught as well as what a positive teacher wants for their students.

A positive teacher starts out with their classroom environment because students want to know that they are safe at school and the lessons they will learn will also be important to remember for the future as well.
I want my classroom to have a positive, and fun environment. I want to have positive quotes for students to look at and quotes that will help them to realize that mistakes will make them better. I would like to be a math teacher and math is one of those subjects that students will make mistakes. Making mistakes is actually a good thing because we can learn from them and fix them when we go to those problems again. Most students today don’t understand math and that’s okay because I want students to learn from their mistakes and fix them when they come to a similar problem in the future.

Thinking of what I want my classroom to look like will also help me excel as a student now because it will help myself to push on my goals and to succeed on everything that I know about teaching when I do become a teacher. I’ve always enjoyed helping others whether it’s math or any other subject because I care for people and I enjoy helping others when they need help. Caring for people is exactly what I want to do for the students that I will have and I would want any student to help others in need as well.

A classroom isn’t just a class that students come every day, but it’s a temporary home for a certain amount of time. Every minute counts and I will do anything that I can to make students feel safe, but also to learn something that will be important for them in the future besides teaching math.
