An Unrealistic Solution to a Realistic Problem by Marc - March 2017 Scholarship Essay
Dear fellow peers and classmates,
Recently, I have been alerted to an issue that I find very troublesome, and I implore of you to offer your input on the subject.
A significant problem that I face, and one that many of you surely face as well, is the intimidating dating process. As high school guys attempt to find the “love of their lives,” they are often cut short by their fear of rejection. If only there existed a way to tell if a girl would accept your date request.
In the sport of baseball, the art of ranking the people whom you desire has been mastered. Both teams and scouts utilize a universal grading scale for prospects, so that every team knows of their potential. Hitters are evaluated based on five different, essential tools: hitting, power, running, fielding, and throwing.
I propose that a similar evaluation be mandated by high schools of their students. Potential suitors will rank each other based on a similar five tool assessment: personality, popularity, humor, looks, and smarts. With this system, never again will a courageous soul be blindsided by the rejection from someone who does not share in their level of interest. Sure, it may be upsetting to know that the woman of your dreams does not feel the same way about you. But the fact that high school students will never again experience the feeling of rejection makes this solution advantageous in the long haul.
