Leadership skills are necessary for success. I am a student athlete and I practice all the time. Our coaches tell us play hard in practice just like a game, because the way you practice will be the way you play in a game. If you do not hustle and play hard in practice, most likely this is how you will preform in a game. Your body and memory conditions the actions you practice. In a team environment it is very important to have leadership skills to be able to encourage your team mates to play hard. Your success depends on your team playing well too.

I believe this is just like being a leader in college. You may be successful in your studies but ultimately in life you will need leadership skills to secure a good position. If you have already practiced those leadership skills in college with your peers, then you will be good at using them on the job with your peers. By the time you reach your career in your life you will be an expert at utilizing your leadership skills.

I know you can be in college without leadership skills, but I think to really get the most out of your studies and college experience leadership skills will enhance your learning experience. Leadership skills will allow you to communicate with your peers, influence their thinking and opinions. Allow you to debate your opinions with your peers and convenience them of an outcome. You will also learn to work as a team and with your team to accomplish a goal. By being a leader you can take ownership of a problem work with your team to resolve an issue and improve your knowledge by your team participation, because of the expression “two heads are better than one”. If you go through college without communicating with your professors and peers you will only increase your knowledge a little bit. But by working with your professors and peers to produce the best product or research in groups you can expand your horizons to heights you never could have thought of on your own and all be rewarded by all your efforts. This is why I think it is necessary to develop and have good leadership skills in college; it will only enhance your college experience and also prepare you for the real world of leadership talents.
